Brian Macleod is a recent graduate (1st Class Honours) of Edinburgh Napier’s BA Popular Music Degree Course. He goes under the name ‘The Church Drummer’ through his official website,http://the-church-drummer.com.
Born and bred in Stornoway, on the Isle Of Lewis, Brian started playing drums at age 11 and moved to Edinburgh to study in 2008. Before then, though, he found considerable success in his first band, Gaelic/Celtic Rock act Sunrise Not Secular, who went on to record 3 Eps and tour Scotland and Europe, as well as appearing on BBC Alba a number of times.
Since moving to Edinburgh, Brian has honed his skills and developed his style by studying and by being active on the Edinburgh music scene. He has been involved with a number of groups, including his own ceilidh band, The Macleod Ceilidh Band, which holds a fine reputation around Scotland.
Currently Brian is also involved with Christian act Steph Macleod, as well as Christian organisations Origin Scotland (which Brian appeared on BBC’s Songs of Praise with), CLAN Gathering, Scripture Union and New Scottish Arts. He is active in Holy Trinity Church in Wester Hailes and loves serving the local church.

One of Brian’s ambitions is to see young people raised up in their callings as beloved sons and daughters of the living God, giving all they’ve got for the name of Jesus. He loves the vision and passion of the Foundlings and is excited to be a part of the team.

Royal Foundlings News: “RISE UP EP” – out tomorrow!
Here at Royal Foundlings HQ, we have been incredibly busy! We’ve been putting the finishing touches on the CD and DVD of the “Live and Unplugged” album (and we can now verify that it is finally off to be manufactured after a few problems with the DVD menus delayed us by a few weeks. We’d rather it was perfect since so many of you pre-ordered and had such faith in us back in May to deliver something really good).
On top of all of that, we’ve been working on the “Rise Up” EP that we initially announced back in June. We had our good friend, Miroslaw Hodun, remix and remaster all of the songs for the release and they sound immense! He’s done a great job and we can’t wait for you to hear them… So much so, that we’re releasing the EP this FRIDAY at EATACD.com!! It will be available everywhere else (such as Bandcamp, iTunes, Amazon etc) on Monday 10th September, but you can get it tomorrow for the special price of £2 (should you be so inclined).
So, with all of these albums and EP’s finally coming out, we can begin to focus on other Foundlings projects:
THIS SATURDAY, we’re playing at the Bothwell Scarecrow Festival at Bothwell Primary School! It’s going to be a fancy dress affair so come along in your best costumes and party with us. The doors open at 7pm! It’s a mere £3 to get in!
At the end of September, we’re off to England for a short tour, playing a mix of acoustic shows and full on rock shows. We’ll announce the dates and venues within the next week or so.
And then it’s back to the studio to put the finishing touches on the reissue of “FOUNDATIONS” and the next ROYAL FOUNDLINGS album!!
